Attachment A: Tracking a Local 511 Call
Caller dials 511 from a landline telephone.
Assuming the 511 service is located "local" to the caller, the caller pays the cost of a local call, or "nothing" if they have Metropolitan Service.
Should the 511 service be located at a toll-call distance to the caller, the caller would pay the cost of a regular toll-call for their service.
Telephone company switching office translates 511 call to a local 7 or 10-digit number. Call is sent on to ATIS service center.
Cost of translation of a "local" call is often only a one-time switch programming cost.
Call is answered at ATIS service center through automated voice response system.
In all cases, the cost for providing the physical lines to answer the calls is borne by the Service provider or providing agency.
Call may be forwarded to other partner agencies.
The cost of forwarding the call is borne by the service provider or agency.
In certain areas where a tariff might exist, the tariff may indicate whether the call must be a local call to the 511 caller (such as the BellSouth tariff), or that the call simply is a local call due to the telephone company coverage area (Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky). |
