Orange Boxes: V-I enabled application components exist in
three areas within the environment.
1.Mobile: These
components move around and are typically found in vehicles or devices carried
into vehicles.
2.Field: These
components exist at the edge of the mobile components and provide the first
point-of-contact between mobile components and those in the fixed
infrastructure. These might be in
roadside equipment, charging stations, cell towers, etc. There is often legacy equipment (Grey
Boxes) at those same locations such as traffic signal controllers or electric
vehicle chargers.
3.Center: Application
components will exist in servers out in the Internet. Those servers could be anywhere and could
be dedicated to activities such as a traffic management center or could be in
a general purpose server farm.
Blue Lines: These are the communication paths between
the application components. There are
a number of physical media that could be used and a number of communication
protocols that could be used.
Purple Boxes and
Lines: At the center of the
application components and their communication paths is the Core System
providing the means of satisfying the needs of the needs of the users.
