Figure 2. Program Timeline and Milestones

The graphic depicts the program timeline and milestones. The program timeline covers Q4 of FY 2004 through Q4 of FY 2009.

There are four tasks to be completed to reach a milestone.

The Task 1 action is Preparatory Analysis, a government-initiated activity. This is scheduled from Q4 of FY 2004 through Q1 of FY 2006. The resulting benefits are Stakeholder Ownership, Program Definition and Execution Strategy.

The Task 2 action is System Design, a partner-led activity. It is scheduled to run from Q1 of FY 2006 through Q3 of FY 2007. The resulting benefit is an Integrated System Design.

The Task 3 actions are Build and validate prototype vehicles, a partner-led activity and Conduct FOT, also a partner-led activity. Build and validate prototype vehicles is scheduled to run from Q1 of FY 2006 through Q3 of FY 2007. Conduct FOT is scheduled to run from Q1 of FY 2008 through Q3 of FY 2009. The resulting benefit is an Integrated System Design.

The Task 4 action is titled, Perform Independent Evaluation, a government-initiated activity. It is scheduled to run from Q2 of FY 2005 through Q4 of FY 2009. The resulting benefits are Safety Benefits, User Acceptance, Cost Analysis and Practicality.

During the course of the program timeline, various milestones are in place. The milestones are listed chronologically below:

  • Public Meeting near the end of Q4 of FY 2004
  • Go/No go decision point near the end of Q2 of FY 2005
  • Partner Selection after the beginning of Q3 of FY 2005
  • Performance Specifications at the end of Q3 of FY 2006
  • Test Procedures at the end of Q3 of FY 2007
  • Vehicle Validation at the end of FY 2007
  • FOT Start at the end of Q3 of FY 2008
  • FOT End at the end of Q2 of FY 2009
  • Benefits start at the end of the program timeline, Q4 of FY 2009, and continue as a result of the program

All four tasks reach a milestone at the end of the program timeline. The milestone is to: Evaluate the safety benefits of vehicles equipped with Integrated Vehicle Based Systems that Address Multiple Crash Types.
