What is IVBSS FOT?

• UMTRI-led cooperative agreement with U.S. DOT (JPO, NHTSA and FMCSA)
• Assess integrated vehicle-based safety systems in passenger cars and heavy trucks
  • Safety benefits
  • Driver acceptance / ease of use
  • Willingness to purchase / marketability
• Lateral Drift, Lane Change/Merge, Forward Crash and Curve Speed Warning functions

Phase I Extension

• Four Months were added to Phase 1
• Verification tests were conducted, and some tests were not passed
• The additional time allowed for changes to the subsystems
• The affected verification tests were re-run
• All verification tests passed
• Impacted the overall schedule, but attempting to minimize that impact

Year 2 Summary of Progress

• 1 st annual report and annual video
• DVI/Human Factors studies
• Functional requirements
• System performance guidelines
• Prototypes built
• Jury drives and Stage 2 pilot testing
• Verification test procedures
• Verification testing completed
• Phase 1 Interim report almost complete
• 2nd annual video completed
• Industry outreach through industry meetings, presentations and demos
• International Truck and Con-way freight officially joined IVBSS
