USDOT Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office Connected Vehicles Pilot Deployment Program

Technical Assistance Webinar Series

Sponsored by USDOT Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office (ITS JPO), the Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment Program seeks to combine connected vehicle and mobile device technologies in innovative and cost-effective ways. Ultimately, this program will improve traveler mobility and system productivity while reducing environmental impacts and enhancing safety. The USDOT has selected three pilot sites, where teams are in the process of conducting Phase 1 Concept Development activities leading to later phases (Phase 2 Design/Build/Test and Phase 3 Operations). A series of USDOT-sponsored technical assistance webinars has been developed to assist not only the three selected sites, but also other early deployers. Below are the three webinars to be held in early February 2016. Stay tuned for more upcoming technical assistance webinars by visiting the program’s website at: http://www.its.dot.gov/pilots.

Privacy Operational Concept for Connected Vehicle Deployments

Date: February 1, 2016
Time: 11:00 am - 12:30 pm EST
Presenters: Ed Fok, Transportation Technologies Specialist, FHWA
Webinar Details:
This webinar will present the USDOT perspective on the development of a Privacy Operational Concept, a key step in the concept development phase for deployment planning. Edward Fok of the Federal Highway Administration will describe the underlying needs to protect the privacy of users and outline a privacy operational concept that addresses these needs. Private information relates to any data emitted, collected, or stored about individuals. A key concept in privacy analysis is the identification and safeguarding of Personal Identifiable Information (PII). The Privacy Operating Concept describes the basic concepts used to ensure privacy is preserved and any required PII are handled appropriately.

Preparing an Effective Performance Measurement Plan for Connected Vehicle Deployments

Date: February 9, 2016
Time: 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EST
Presenter: John Halkias, Systems Management Team Leader, FHWA
Webinar Details:
This webinar will present the USDOT perspective on the development of a Performance Measurement Plan, a key step in the concept development phase for deployment planning. Performance measurement is essential for improving an agency’s internal operations as well as for providing accountability for public expenditure. Dr. John Halkias of Federal Highway Administration will describe the concept and the requirements of an effective Performance Measurement Plan, including identifying confounding factors and methods to mitigate their impacts; crafting meaningful and feasible use cases/scenarios; and preventing issues that may arise if performance measurement is not carefully planned.

SCMS Proof-of-Concept Interface Requirements for Connected Vehicle Deployments

Date: February 10, 2016
Time: 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm EST
Presenters: Kevin Gay, Program Manager, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Benedikt Brecht, Volkswagen and Dean Therriault, General Motors
Webinar Details:
The Security Credential Management System Proof-of-Concept (SCMS PoC) is expected to provide security credential management services for USDOT Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office Connected Vehicle Pilot deployment sites. The SCMS PoC is planned to be completed and become operational in the Fall of 2016. The USDOT has released the initial version of the SCMS POC interface requirements which describes how devices will interact with the system and receive security credential materials. Kevin Gay of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Benedikt Brecht of Volkswagen and Dean Therriault of General Motors will describe the interface requirements documentation and provide a high level walkthrough specifically focusing on the planned enrollment and provisioning processes
