This
chart identifies a range of Open Source SOFTWARE licenses that are available and the issue
of rights that can be granted. We’ve begun to set up a table to compare the
differences and, ultimately, to understand what the benefits are from each
type of license. This slide offers an
preview into some of the licenses available for us and how they are in use currently with
developers. This chart is not yet complete. There are a whole host of issues and rights associated
with database licensing that we are looking into, as well as continuing to explore
other types of licenses.
I’m
not sure if everyone is familiar with these licenses or these questions regarding rights. We’ll be developing a report that explains
these for our community that should be available in about two months. To a certain extent, we’re interested in
gaining your feedback in this session to understand your concerns and questions
before we finalize our analysis and our report.
With
that in the background, the rest of our panel presenters will discuss how Open Data and/or Open
Source has worked for their programs and agencies.
