We are well on our way for the Safety Research.  Assuming a positive decision, this paves the way for the rest of the program.  As we look ahead, the department is planning a significant investment in infrastructure related research for safety, mobility, environment and weather.
In 2013 and 2014 you will see significant research in application development. We are also working on the enabling technology and FHWA is planning to develop infrastructure deployment guidelines for state and local agencies.
Pending success for these efforts, we see an opportunity to build off the Safety Pilot and conduct additional pilots to assess benefits and seed implementation.  In 2013 we are going to start an open process to look at the opportunities and needs for additional Connected Vehicle Pilots.
We look forward to working with the community on these efforts.

With MAP-21 we are looking at opportunities to encourage ITS deployment. We are working with FTA and FHWA on identifying methods in their existing programs to do this.  We are also planning to continue support of our Integrated Corridor Management and Mobility Services for All Americans programs by launching an effort to provide Deployment Planning Grants, thus helping a new wave of implementers based on the success of these research programs.

We are launching a New Strategic Plan Process
We Begin Stakeholder engagement in 2013, hope to publish a plan in 2014. The time Horizon: 2015-2019. Additionally, over the last two years we have started exploratory work on Automated vehicles,  Pedestrian Safety, Motorcycle Safety, Accessible Transportation, Cyber Security, and Smart Cities/Electric Vehicles.
Test beds Real-world, operational test beds that offer the supporting vehicles, infrastructure, and equipment to serve the needs of public and private sector testing and certification activities
Draft Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) - create an affiliation of 5.9GHz DSRC infrastructure device makers, operators of V2I installations, and developers of applications that use V2I communication
Agreements will help to facilitate the sharing of tools and resources across all facilities to bring about the future deployment of 5.9GHz DSRC and other V2I wireless communication technology
MOC commenting period ended recently (Jan 11, 2013); currently assimilating input; lots of interest from stakeholders
Finalized MOC expected for review shortly (starting 1st quarter of 2013)
