Breakout (Focus) Group Sessions – 1st Grouping by Domains

All of the workshops will be structured the same way.  An introductory session will feed into breakout sessions.  There will be up to 5 breakout sessions which will have 25 or so members.   The list of interest domains below will be used to set the groups used in the morning of the second day.  This division can be tailored based on the types of stakeholders that register to attend a given workshop.  For instance, if just a few from Public Safety are registered they can be combined with the Transit/CVO group having similar interests in the fleet management aspects of their operations.  On the other hand, if more than 30 from the traffic management area attend they may be divided into a second group.

Day 2 AM BREAK-OUT FOCUS GROUPS – target 5 by domain/areas of interest
  • Traffic Management/Maintenance and Construction/Road weather/Critical infrastructure/Planning/Environmental
  • Public Safety (Police/Fire/Rescue) – emergency incident response, including service patrols
  • Transit/CVO/Toll/Rail
  • Carry-in and Aftermarket Providers (In-vehicle devices)/Traveler Mobility – traveler information
  • Telecommunications/Data Aggregators/Backhaul Network providers
Breakout (Focus) Group Sessions – 2nd Grouping by Communications & System Interaction

On the afternoon of the 2nd day the stakeholders will be divided into focus groups again, this time based more on communications type and how they would interact with the eventual system.  This different grouping allows stakeholders to interact with different users and pull-out additional types of needs than if they just stayed in their familiar domain oriented groups.   The list below shows the initial spread of interest or domain areas to each group.  This division can be tailored based on the types of stakeholders that register to attend a given workshop.  For instance, if just a few from transaction oriented users are registered they can be combined with the Back Office or System Administration group having similar interests in the management of the data and network.  On the other hand, if more than 30 from the infrastructure related areas they may be divided into a second group.

Day 2 PM BREAK-OUT GROUPS – target 5 by communications and system interaction
  • Applications enabled by Broadcasts from Vehicles and Mobile Devices
  • Applications enabled by Broadcasts from Infrastructure
  • Applications enabled by Transaction Oriented Communications
  • Back-Office and Data Services
  • System Administration
