Two brochures on ITS technologies for human services transportation

Improving Transit Equity, Streamlining Operations: http://www.itsdocs.fhwa.dot.gov/jpodocs/brochure/14139.htm

Better Public Transportation for Everyone: http://www.itsdocs.fhwa.dot.gov/jpodocs/brochure/14138.htm

Older adults, people with disabilities, and inpiduals with lower incomes often have challenges accessing transportation services.  These populations needs flexible yet dependable routes and schedules, readily available and reliable traveler information, a single fare payment system that is convenient and easy to use, and transportation that is safe and secure.  Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) can help agencies meet these needs.

Recently posted online are two brochures that highlight the use of ITS technologies in coordinating and improving human services transportation.  "Improving Transit Equity, Streamlining Operations" (http://www.itsdocs.fhwa.dot.gov/jpodocs/brochure/14139.htm) highlights the benefits of these ITS technologies to agencies that provide human services transportation, including higher quality service, flexibility to adapt to changing conditions, improved safety and security, and increased ridership.  "Better Public Transportation for Everyone" (http://www.itsdocs.fhwa.dot.gov/jpodocs/brochure/14138.htm) highlights the benefits of ITS technologies to transit passengers and shows that technologies that benefit human services transportation users also improve operations for all passengers.

For more information about the brochures, contact Yehuda Gross of the ITS Joint Program Office, (202) 366-1988, Yehuda.Gross@fhwa.dot.gov.
