|This graphic shows
where we are in our timeline of the program’s intended path toward
deployment. Our field testing in real-world settings has led to the
evaluation of technology effectiveness.
The first evaluation is documented in the August 2014, NHTSA Advance
Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on V2V technology for light vehicles that is
accompanied by a detailed report known as: “Vehicle-to-Vehicle
Communications: Readiness of V2V Technology for Application” .
|Our evaluation of
the field data is continuing to inform our decision path, and more reports
are expected to be available this Fall of 2015.
|Also, based on
data collected regarding trucks and buses, NHTSA will make a decision about
heavy vehicles in late 2015/early 2016.
|We anticipate the
continuation of our security prototyping and device testing and certification
efforts in the coming months and years, and are expecting our modal partner,
FHWA, to issue deployment guidelines in the year ahead to assist the state
and local jurisdictions in moving this technology towards widespread
deployment. All of these decisions and guidance highlighted above the arrow
in blue on this path are being put into place to support our first award of
Connected Vehicle Pilot sites.
