Mark Your Calendars for the "What's New in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Deployment" Webinar Series

The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) ITS Joint Program Office (JPO) will host a new three-part webinar series highlighting the latest trends and developments in ITS deployment.

To measure the deployment of ITS technology nationally, the USDOT's ITS Deployment Tracking Project surveys transportation agencies in the largest U.S. cities on a regular basis. The ITS Knowledge Resources Portal summarizes the benefits, costs, deployment levels, and lessons learned for ITS deployment and operations from over 20 years of ITS evaluation studies, research syntheses, handbooks, journal articles, and conference papers tracking the effectiveness of deployed ITS.

The webinar series will provide an overview of these resources to support informed decision making on ITS investments, highlight recent additions to the survey, and solicit feedback from participants on how best to redesign the portal to improve its usability and value.

ITS Deployment Tracking: 2016 Survey Findings on Current Levels and Trends

What are the deployment trends in surveillance and advanced detection technology? Does the adoption of adaptive traffic signals by arterial agencies still occur at a rapid pace? How are transportation agencies using social media to gather and distribute information on travel conditions and schedules? This webinar will answer some of the biggest questions regarding ITS deployment in the United States by focusing on key findings from the 2016 survey and highlighting trends in ITS deployment.

Speakers: Marcia Pincus, Program Manager, ITS Deployment Evaluation, USDOT ITS JPO; Steve Gordon, Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Date and Time: Tuesday, February 20, 2018; 1:00 to 2:00 PM EST

ITS Deployment Tracking Survey: Connected Vehicle Technologies and Beyond

To what extent are agencies planning to deploy connected vehicle technologies? Which connected vehicle applications are they planning to deploy? What barriers are preventing agencies from considering these technologies? This webinar will present key findings on a new set of connected vehicle questions included in the 2016 ITS Deployment Tracking Survey. This interactive session will also seek participant feedback on the types of advanced technologies and deployment information that future deployment tracking surveys should collect. The session aims to gather input on how we can make the survey more useful to users, including deployers, planners, researchers, and policy makers.

Speakers: Marcia Pincus, Program Manager, ITS Deployment Evaluation, USDOT ITS JPO; Steve Gordon, Oak Ridge National Laboratory; Margaret Petrella and Lora Chajka-Cadin, Volpe National Transportation Systems Center

Date and Time: Tuesday, March 6, 2018; 1:00 to 2:00 PM EST

Updating the ITS Knowledge Resource Databases to Better Analyze, Plan, and Evaluate Your ITS Projects

How much does it cost to implement adaptive traffic control in an intersection or corridor? What are the benefits of this technology and what performance metrics can be used? Where has it been successfully implemented? This webinar will briefly show how to use data from the ITS costs, benefits, and lessons learned databases-located in the ITS Knowledge Resources Portal-to plan, justify, and evaluate your next ITS project. The interactive session will seek participant feedback on what content would be most valuable for planning and evaluating projects and how we can redesign this resource to meet user needs.

Speakers: Marcia Pincus, Program Manager, ITS Deployment Evaluation, USDOT ITS JPO; Liz Greer, Drennan Hicks, and Janet Fraser, Noblis

Date and Time: Tuesday, March 27, 2018; 1:00 to 2:00 PM EST
