U.S. Department of Transportation Announces Funding Opportunity for Roadway Safety Tools

The U.S. Department of Transportation recently announced the release of a Safety Data Initiative Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for State and Local Government Data Analysis Tools for Roadway Safety. It seeks to build the capacity of state, local, and tribal governments to use innovative data tools and information to improve roadway safety.

  • Funding Available: Up to $3 million for up to 12 awards
  • Eligible Applicants: State or local governments, metropolitan planning organizations and regional governments, other political subdivisions of a state or local government, and tribal governments
  • Application Due Date: January 17, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. ET

The U.S. DOT will be offering a webinar on Tuesday, December 3, at 2:30 pm ET to provide an overview of the NOFO. For more information about the NOFO, please visit the Safety Data Initiative webpages, including the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

The U.S. DOT also recently released a pre-solicitation notice for a Safety Data Initiative Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for Conducting Innovative, Applied Research to Gain New Roadway Safety Insights and Tools. Later this year, the Department plans to publish the final version to which offerors may apply.
