ITS University Workshop #4

ITS America Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
September 22-23, 2016

About the Workshop

The 4th ITS University Workshop was a two day, virtual and in person, collaborative event where educators, practitioners, and professional association representatives learned what ITS training products are available, worked together to identify ITS educational needs and develop strategies to meet those needs. Workshop attendees participated in presentations, break-out sessions, and interactive exercises, designed to foster the exchange of information, ideas, and best practices in university-level ITS education and preparation of students in transportation engineering for today’s workforce needs.

Workshop Objectives

  1. Define the current—and future—education needs for entry-level ITS positions in the workforce.
  2. Identify and discuss existing tools from the ITS PCB Program and partners that universities can use to help build the necessary ITS capacity in students.
  3. Define unmet educational needs.
  4. Brainstorm potential solutions from the ITS PCB Program and partners to fill unmet educational needs.
  5. Provide professors with a peer to peer opportunity to exchange best practices in ITS education.
