Description

This module introduces participants to the exciting world of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and the technologies that enhance transportation safety and mobility, and efficiency. It covers how ITS solutions are developed, deployed, and operated and explores potential future directions of ITS for a variety of modes and locations of transportation networks. The module also explores the types of professionals designing, implementing, and supporting ITS.

Goal

The goal of the module is to introduce participants to ITS, what it entails, and how it gets implemented so that they develop a familiarity with ITS and can explain why it is the future of transportation.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the purpose and importance of ITS using example ITS deployments.
  • Explain how ITS can help overcome transportation challenges, now and in the future.
  • Assess the safety and operational impacts of ITS both broadly and in specific deployment scenarios.
  • Identify and describe example ITS-related careers at a high level.
