U.S. Department of Transportation Directions

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has moved its new Headquarters to the Southeast Federal Center. DOT is housed in two connected buildings – the East Building and the West Building. The headquarters physical address is:

The main visitor's entrance is located in the West Building, on New Jersey Avenue and M Street. Upon entering the lobby, visitors must report to the security desk.

Metrorail

Due to the limited amount of parking around DOT Headquarters, use of public transit is strongly advised. DOT is served by the Navy Yard Metrorail Station (Green line). The closest exit to DOT Headquarters is the Navy Yard exit, which is located across the street from the West Building.

From the Sheraton Crystal City Hotel

The hotel is adjacent to the Crystal City Metro Station. Take the Yellow Line towards Mt Vernon Square to the L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station. At the L’Enfant Metro Station, take the Green Line towards Branch Ave and arrive at the Navy Yard Metro Station. Walk across M Street to the U.S. DOT West Building main visitor’s entrance on New Jersey Ave.

Driving from area airports

Ronald Reagan Washington National – DCA: Take George Washington Prkwy North and exit at I 395 North towards Washington, DC. Take Maine Avenue Exit. Turn LEFT at stop light onto Maine Avenue. ( Maine Avenue turns into M Street, SW and then M Street, SE.) Continue for 1.1 miles and then turn LEFT onto New Jersey Avenue, SE. Turn RIGHT onto L Street, SE. The hotel is on the corner of New Jersey Avenue and L Street, SE.

Take 395 NORTH towards Washington. Take Maine Avenue Exit. Turn LEFT at stop light onto Maine Avenue. ( Maine Avenue turns into M Street, SW and then M Street, SE.) Continue for 1.1 miles and then turn LEFT onto New Jersey Avenue, SE. Turn RIGHT onto L Street, SE. The hotel is on the corner of New Jersey Avenue and L Street, SE .

• Take I-95 N toward WASHINGTON.

I-95 from Northern Maryland

• Take I-95 S toward Washington.
• Take the BALTIMORE WASHINGTON PARKWWAY S exit- EXIT 22B- toward WASHINGTON.
• Merge onto MD-295 S (Crossing into DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA).
• MD-295 S becomes I-295 S.
• Take the HOWARD ROAD exit- EXIT 3B- toward DOWNTOWN.
• Turn RIGHT onto HOWARD RD SE.
• Keep LEFT at the fork in the ramp.
• Stay STRAIGHT to go onto S CAPITOL ST SE.

I-270 from Northern Maryland

• I-270 LOCAL S becomes I-270 S.

• I-270 SPUR S becomes I-495 S / CAPITAL BELTWAY (Crossing into VIRGINIA).
